The good, the bad and the indestructible One way or another – with the odd casualty – we’ve reached Nouakchott, meaning we’ve now crossed the Sahara in high summer. What next? Ah yes, West Africa in rainy season…
Pains, trains and automobiles (travels in the heart of the Sahara) An overnight train journey across the Sahara in an iron ore wagon, a failed attempt at cycling through the desert, paralysing heat and black eyes, and the kindness of a Mauritania we’re just starting to get to know.
Bike Mic: Into Nouadhibou (Mauritania) In this second “Bike Mic” recording, Huw describes what he sees as we pedal out of the desert and into Nouadhibou, a few hours – and a world – away from Western Sahara.

Leaving Western Sahara: breezes, borders, bureacracy and… gerbils Music and colour, sunlight and smiles, bureaucracy and political drama; we’ve reached West Africa – or at least, one of its far northern outposts in Mauritania.
Fantasia (and the power of women) 
We stumbled across this traditional display of horsemanship as we were pedalling from Rabat to Casablanca in northern Morocco. We weren’t too sure what it was all about until we met a Moroccan and French couple who explained it all to us – and a lot more besides…

Introducing… Bike Mic, in Rabat Bike Mic is a small, tough microphone wedged between the handlebars and bar bag with a high tech device (a piece of foam). In this first Bike Mike recording (of many, I suspect), Huw describes our approach to Rabat, while Bex gets us lost.
