Route map

Prompted by a comment yesterday, I decided – belatedly – to put up this map of our proposed route through Africa, from the UK to Namibia. (We originally included this with our main map but, as we added more and more data, it was getting too slow to load.)
We’ve shaded the countries we might be going to (although some, like Mali and Angola, are on our we’d-love-to-but-it’s-unlikely list) instead of drawing a line because a line seems a bit too… definite. Taking world events and our own changing whims into account, we’re not sure which countries we’ll end up in, never mind which route we’ll take through them.
Our general idea though is to more or less follow the coastal countries through West Africa, cross the Democratic Republic of Congo by boat, pedal through East, Central and Southern Africa to Cape Town and then cycle back up to Namibia, to finish our journey in Windhoek.
Hey Bex – thank you for the map! pas de problemes – I’ll follow your day to day adventures direct from the blog. I’ll be really curious to listen to the sounds of forest and people from Democratic Republic of Congo. A bientot, Veroxx
hello becca and huw and happy birthday for saturday. we did think of you! Chris arrived home safely from his trip
to morocco last week but as he did not take any technology with him he could not contact you – and yes he did climb the atlas
mountains with his group. they had a great week and an amazing experience. Emma is now in her final 2 weeks of
GCSE’s and then she has 3 months off! I might send her to join you! Dave and I continue our hectic life and are now counting
the days for our holiday in Mauritius which we can now say is next month. I am enjoying tracking your progress –
and i imagine it is now hard to remember that first cold cycle from steyning in March. Chris said it was very hot!

Hi Mo! Thanks – and sorry I missed yours. And Chris’s. And Emma’s, and, um, Dave’s, I think… I tried vaguely to get in touch with Chris but the technology was against me too – as it turns out we took the coastal route so we were nowhere near Marrakech unfortunately. Sounds like an amazing experience though and I’m glad he enjoyed it. Aaah, long hot empty summers after the exams – sounds wonderful! Say good luck to Emma and enjoy her summer off (and Glastonbury, if she’s going). Have a wonderful time in Mauritius.

We moved house in Amsterdam recently and I met my neighbour in the street this weekend. He’s Namibian and works on carbon credit projects in Africa. Not sure how I really feel about carbon credits but the project themselves will no doubt be interesting and you might want to check them out if some of them end up on your route… well let me know if you’re interested and I can put you in touch with him, He would also be excellent for getting any advice about Namibia if you’re not totally overloaded with that already…
